The hard drive died. There is nothing unusual about that, unfortunately. This is why people who have experienced such bad luck backup their data regularly.

You need to get a replacement IDE laptop hard drive for it and use the recovery CDs to reinstall Windows.

The laptop is rather old - about 7 years. You may want to just retire it. If you need to get critical data off of the drive, it will likely require professional attention and cost a lot of money.
