Go to Start/Control panel/system and security/System It will say at the top 'vista........' and any service packs it has installed. If it does not mention any you will need to install them manualy.
For the RAM *issue* Right click/Personalise/Display/Adjust resolution/advanced settings will tell you how much memory the graphics is using.
(That is how to get to it in windows 7 Im sure they should be similar).
