Clipboard doesn't always work XP MCE 2002 SP3

I have Windows XP MCE 2002 SP3. It's fully updated as of a few days ago.

One program I use is a programming language I design games in.

Recently I've been getting an error message that "Requested Clipboard operation could not be completed." -- this error means the picture I was designing did not get copied into the clipboard. I can click CONTINUE or QUIT. But if I continue the clipboard doesn't work, so it's useless. I have to quit and restart the program to fully utilize it.

I spoke to the developer of this program and he showed me the clipboard code. It's very small and hasn't changed in awhile. For some reason I am the only one having this problem.

I can open other programs such as Firefox, Notepad, Wordpad, OpenOffice, etc, and copy just fine.

I've tried going back to an older version of the software when I know I didn't have any troubles. I still get the error.

The developer has updated his software to try and "trap" the error I am having. The new version of his software gives me an error message when it fails, but it only has an OK button. Clicking OK and copying to clipboard again works! It seems only the first time I start the program this happens.. gives me error message once, and then will never bother me again, but if I exit and restart program I'll get that error message the first time.

Any help is most appreciated in trying to pinpoint this problem..

Oh yeah and I tried disabling my AVG Free anti-virus, as well as my Spybot S&D and Spyware Blaster. No luck.
