Wireless N is the newest wireless standard previously it was G.
To be honest without knowing what you plan on going with the lappy its hard to make a great suggestion. But I can say there is no real reason to hang your hat on 4gigs as a standard for a sub $600 laptop. I doubt you'd be doing much with that that would even push 2gigs.
This would be a decent setup. It pushes the price limit but you get a much better gpu setup so you could get a little gaming in on it if need be.
