Well pullmyfoot, in my computer repair "business" data recovery is a daily necessity and I am admittedly not surprised at your lack of a free solution.

Another awesome Techmolian suggested to me some time ago:

Knoppix Linux Boot CD, Download Disk and Documents, Discuss, Get Help

I can assure you that after personally testing it lacks the automated features of it's more "professional" and expensive Windows competition, is every bit as powerful and most times much more resourceful if you can force yourself past that dirty "Linux" word.

Truly the only instance where data recovery of fat/ntfs in Linux might be challenging is in cases of hard drive corruption. Small fry
