Can't get my disc drives to work

Hello, I'm new, but I just recently built my own Computer consisting of an Athlon XP1800, Gigabyte GA 7VRXP Mobo (rev. 2.0), Maxtor 40-Gig ATA 133 7200 RPM hard drive, 512 Meg DDR PC2700 Crucial Memory, GeForce4 MX440 AGP, Philips 40x12x40 CD-RW, Artec 16x DVD, Iomega internal Zip, Mitsumi Floppy & Windows ME.

Everything works fine & I even switched the mobo to 133, so my Athlon runs at 1533 MHZ.
The only thing is that I cannot get my DVD drive to work.
My CD-RW works fine by itself, but whenever I hook the cable up to the DVD & CD-RW, neither of them will work. Even when I disconnect the CD-RW and plug in the DVD Separately, it still won't work.
I've tried to run the search for new hardware option in the control panel, but it doesn't do anything.

Also, I haven't figured out where to plug in the 'Audio in' on the Mobo for the DVD. I plugged it in for the CD-RW, but then there's no place to put the plug for the DVD.

One more thing... The DVD will read the discs when I put them in, just the computer won't recognize the drive.

If ANY of this makes any sense at all, help would be appreciated.
If you need me to explain it a little better, let me know! I'm awful at explaining details.
