From what I have read (and not sure where) but basically if you are not planning on doing alot of image or video editing or alot of file sharing then the 2mb cache will do you fine.

I have all my drives (3 of them) with only 2mb cache and a system at work with 2 - 80gb 8mb cache and couldn't notice any difference. I am sure a benchmark could but I couldn't.

(doing video editing from VHS tapes)

One thing that you have to bear in mind is that cache speed doesn't really matter that greatly when you are using IDE technology. Using a IDE inferface will be the bottle neck in performace. Take a SCSI drive where it can utilitze the higher cache amount through it faster bus (using a 64 bit bus).
