It really sounds like the two stick were incompatible. Sometimes that happens. Memory can be a funny thing. I always try to match my sticks. I only use Crucial in my machines and have never had a problem since switching to that brand. If you haven't tried Crucial, you're missing out. Check the link at the left top of this page. Good luck!
