I have not heard about bad latency with sattelite do you have statistics.

For FPS ping speed is not the only problem to look at. if you have 100 ms or even 200 ms delay you can still play quite good as long as it remains stable. If it bounces from 100 to 300 you may see more negative impact. That in mind what is the ping of sattelite???

But I feel your pain none the less. I went for some time trying to quake2, and UT. My pings were extremely unstable. I am now on cable and it is night and day to my old connection.

I saw a little improvement for some cost when I went for dual ISDN. You could try that but even with that I found the ISP to be the big downfall there. I would ping 40 to the ISP and 250 when I hit the first external hop. Several ISDN providers allowed me to trial their services and the one that did the best was a dam long distance call. You can experiment though with that if you can find a cheap enough ISDN modem.

I have one that I don't use anymore. if you made me an offer I might not refuse. So find out if ISDN is an option in your area. You can offset the course by using one of the isdn links for phone when needed.
