I believe sattelite ping is about 500-600ms on a good day! Way too much for gaming. The best ping I've had in months is about 300ms. Usually it's more like 400-500ms. And it's not stable at all! I looked into ISDN, no luck in my area. I also looked into alternative solutions such as wireless that uses cell phone towers, and broadband through power lines, there are lots of experiments like that going on around the country, but none around here. When I do a trace route test, it seems like most of my problem is in the first couple hops, which are my ISP's servers. It could help to go with a different ISP, but I still have a few more months before I can cancel Compuserve without getting penalized and having to pay like $200. I'm looking around though, because as soon as my contract is up...see ya! I tried telling CS about my problems, but they are no help. And according to the phone and cable companies, I may be able to get DSL and Cable within a year. I'd definitely go for cable over DSL! So, really I just need some good games to play on-line with my crappy connection, just to keep me happy for a few more months and possibly for a year.
