Yeah, I had one that made that kind of noise and went out within a month...

It just depends, but I would return it to Maxtor. They normally have pretty great drives but every now and then you get a bad egg. Backup everything that is needed and send it to them ASAP. And, you normally don't get the same actual drive back, but it will at least be what you had if not better!
