Question
Bad card or PEBCAK error?

Hello all! I'm having a heck of a time trying to install a GeForce4 MX440 (ya, I know, it's not mine, dont ask hehe). This is on a fresh install of the OS (HDD was f-disk'ed and formatted first) with a new MB/Processor as well.

Specs :
Amptron K7-810 XLM (all in one)
AMD Duron 1.3GHz CPU
GeForce 4MX 440
WinXP Pro

Everything seemed smooth untill it was trying to get to the desktop, then the system would lock up at the welcome screen. Reboot, same thing. Ok, so booted to safe mode, uninstalled the video card from device manager and took out the drivers from add/remove programs. Reboot normal, it gets to desktop fine.

Windows recognizes the card and installs drivers for it automatically. Screen flashes a few times but still looks normal when it's done. Can select high resolution and 32bit color. Check the driver version and it's the same one that's on the disk that came with the card.

Now, if I reboot the system, it locks up again at the same place (welcome screen) or sometimes it will turn off the monitor (the light goes amber) play a horrid sounding version of the startup.wav and just sit there.

We put in my GeForce2 Ultra card, booted up, drivers installed and it had absolutely no problems at all. Also tried the GF4 in my computer and it would have the same issues I talked about above...

Also tried installing the latest Detonator drivers but it had the same problem.

I'm missing something right?
