My W98SE box despised an older 4x2x6 IDE (Yamaha), and one reason was because the ASPI layers were not matched revisions. ASPI requires two software components, both must be the same revision for best results; but usually the CDRW software provides only one of the 2 parts, and thus you have mismatched versions. I think XP has a similar problem. If the ASPI layer is leaving the CDRW in a confused state, software eject might fail, while manual eject could override it. Adaptec link to the ASPI software includes a testing routine which does not install anything. And the software is definitely used for XP. HTH. |
