took some searching but I seemed to have found some of the history behind the expression "My two cents"
From what I have read it comes some think from playing poker.. but the expression predates cents.. and goes back to bits .. http://www.money.org/mtquarter.html
2 bits (spanish silver.. which was the predominant coin in America two hundred plus years ago) was equivalent to America's new quarter coming out at the time.. so actualy when we say two cents we are wrong.. considering the og expression.. but two cents seems to sound so much better..
I'll provide the link below where I got the info from.. I only could find it on a cached page throuhg google.. the message board it was on deleted the thread..
http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:Wj0gNCRcd9Q: pub55.ezboard.com/fwordoriginsorgfrm1.showMessage%3FtopicID%3D498.to pic+expression+My+Two+bits&hl=en
well the link is messed up b/c there is a : and p together.. I'll put a space between them.. and if ppl want to copy and paste it into a browser and remove the space they can..
