I also have a DiamondMax Plus 9 120 GB drive that failed after a few months of light use. It started playing that exact same little song and refused to spin up. So I picked it up while it was running and clunked it back down again. Not too hard, just a good solid kick in the pants. Presto, it started spinning.
I was able to get all my data off the piece of junk without voiding the warranty.
