As for the beeping phenominon, I smell a Maxtor recall on the horizon.
As for hitting the drive, no. Not sure abotu MAxtor, but WD's limit for maximum g-forces the grive can sustain is 300Gs. For comparison, Jet Fighter pilots rarely get over 10 Gs, if at all.
