Just installed a new 60 gb Maxtor yesterday. Turned the computer off overnight. After I started it up this morning, the hard drive started making ugly clicking noises and then crashed. My husband took the hard drive out of the case and then started the computer again. Same thing with black screen saying put in boot disk. I turned the hard drive over and started the computer up again. In several attempts, I managed to transfer the important material to another networked computer. Seems the hard drive is heating up and crashing. Not to give MS credit, but I am glad I have 2000 installed, win 95 or 98 would never stand this. Now if I can I am going to wipe it clean and send it back to Maxtor. Going to use it for spare when I get a new one back. Also going to try using my old 40 gb and a 30 gb as a backup this time. Trying to beat the clock is stressful!
