not to take away from the problem though...

I really can't think of anything but the monitor that would cause that much EMI, and I really don't think that there is anything that would change from OS to OS but refresh rate. Did you try turning the monitor off while you were booted into linux and see if the cat door still did it's thing?

I am totally dumbfounded!!!!
