omasound, I don't recomend hanging on to that drive, you see I thought of the same thing after I fixed mine, stick to it until it does it again... Well, it was working fine for 2 weeks and then it went completly out!!  (( No beeping, no bios recognision, nothing!! It just spins REALLY fast now and even makes my master drive invisible to the system. Needless to say it didn't go through the trouble of backing up and did loose everything at the end!
I called maxtor and they actually have an advanced RMA system in which they send you a drive and once you get it you have 30days to send the bad one back to them. So I recomend going through this procedure. Get a new drive, Ghost the old one, while it still works, and then send it back to them.
Oh, one final thing are you sure about the re-furbished part?because they didnot say anything like that about the drive they are sending me.
