need small help installing gentoo linux (small prob)

i've sucessfully installed other linux systems and i noticed that its all "point and click" now i wanted to go to the next level, the text based installation........ no clicking anywhere, just all good o'l plain text.

i decided to go for gentoo linux, just to give it a try and i noticed that im going to have to install that the "text" way.... i've sucessfully >

1)created partions 2)formated filesystems
3)copied all files needed and extracted them (.tar.bz2)
4)setup the linux "tree" with the "bin mnt etc home usr tmp var" all that stuff everything is FINE!!

exept that i cant manage to edit my FSTAB in "/etc/fstab" using the text based commands, either this or that i dont know the correct ones, something about "nano -w "filename" that dont work!!!

the second problem began while copying and installing my 2.4 gentoo kernel using the command "genkernel" and what not the system stalls and its just currently stuck at "running "make modules"... the cursor is blinking and its been like this for the past HOUR!!! should i restart or whats up? i really want to install this system on this computer (beside me) and i dont want to give up.............

any help anyone? some suggesstions?/
anything is appreciated! thanx!
