You need the actual IP address of the Macintosh computer. Go here to find out how to get it: http://www.uark.edu/compserv/network...ipaddress.html
Now take that address (for example 192.168.1.101) and ping the Macintosh box from the Windows command line:
ping 192.168.1.101
You should see a response from the Macintosh computer. If you do the internal (LAN) network is functioning.
