SuSE is a great desktop OS. It is also a great OS for newbies.

Back to the original question: What modem are you using? Is it a winmodem? I know that with my winmodem I had a very simialar problem where SuSE installed the driver and I could not connect for the same reason. It kept saying no carrier.
