you on XP?
go here and do the XP services config deal....basically it is just turning off the MANY unneeded services that are running by default in xp.......junk like "smart card helper, portable media serial number, remote desktop session help" blah blah..a long list of em just eating up resources for no reason.
I usually do the "safe" config except maybe a few changes..(like I leave on system restore etc)
--------------------------------------------------
nevermind..I see you r on Win98se, lol.
one thing you could try is checking out startup control panel which is just a better version of MsConfig....a nice tiny little prog that shows more stuff than msconfig....maybe you could find a thing or two extra to turn off.
