<in the voice of
the Rock> Finally! Redfury has come to his senses! He has upgraded to Windows XP. No longer will he suffer through interminable BSD's and his screen savers locking up the system! Nor will he endure the Rip Van Winkle of Win98 coming out of sleep mode, only to lose it's train of thought and stop working! Can you smelllalalalalala, what Microsoft is cooking?!
They're cooking up a bunch of Candy-A$$ed Non-Operating Systems, that's what they are doing!
Huff...huff...huff....
Okay, I think I've calmed down....Know your role and shut your....!.....ah, oh...mmmkay, I think I've got it out now..
Okay, here's the dealio. Upgraded to XP from 98se, now some of my programs don't work and need to be reinstalled, but windows installer locks up and quits. Microsoft Knowledge Base says I need to hack the registry to get my Admin tools to work ( which they didn't either ), and for programs to install. Now, I did the registry hack and got my admin tools working, but I still can't install or even uninstall the programs that don't currently work. I can uninstall programs that do work, just not the ones that don't.
I get the error 1606 and the exact issue is the first one listed in teh Knowledge base.
Anyone else run into this problem, and what is the work around.
And don't tell me to format and do the full install, I'm not ready for that yet. I'm either going to revert back to that old 98se POS BSOD OS, or go find that bottle of Cherry flavored Vodka I just bought and make some real cherry cokes for myself...
