| Windows XP logon problem?
Hey. I have a system with a freshly formated HD and and newly installed copy of XP. Well, I set up 3 different accounts and am having a problem with the user logon sequence. I have 2 limited accounts and 1 administrator account set up. Whenever the comptuer boots, it does not show a user selection screen (where you get to choose what user to want to log onto). It just signs on under the administrators account. I thought that if I added a password to that account, it would then maybe stop at the user selection screen, but it still doesn't. It's got me stumped. Any ideas on how to keep this thing from just loging onto an administator account?
Also, where can I find additional security restristions for users that I can assign (like keeping them from right clicking on the desktop or keeping them from shutting down the PC)? I am using Win XP Pro. |

You could try this:
Select Run from the Start Menu, type control userpasswords2, and click Ok. Turn on the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer option, and click Ok. If you have one user account and no password configured, Windows XP will log you in automatically. You could also obtain and install the Windows XP version of TweakUI. Open TweakUI (it's in Start -> Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP). Expand the Logon branch, and click Autologon. Turn off the Log on automatically at system startup option, click Ok.

That fixed it. Thanks Bill!
Also, where can I find the advanced part of Windows that allows me to set different security restrictions (Other than just a "limited" user)? |

The Group Policy editor is a powerful tool that allows you to restrict access to certain users.
Unfortunately "right click" ain't one of them.
Shut down is.
Start > Run > ( input ) gpedit.msc > OK
Not sure where it is precisely but you should be able to browse throught the settings and find it.
When you right click it select "security" and you can remove a user from being able to shut down the computer.
