MSConfig startup tab

What populates the startup tab in MSConfig (Win98)? The reason I ask, I've "cleaned" several viruses and spyware's from a guys machine but the remnants from one of these is about 50 phony executables in the startup tab in MSConfig (when I say phony I mean morphed file names). I shut them off so they're not a problem anymore, but I'd like to know how to remove them. They're not in the registry under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Run" or under the other "run" keys. They're not in the startup folder, autoexec.bat or anywhere else. Does anyone know how to clear entries from the MSConfig startup list?

Thanks, Dave

You can find others of these programs under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared tools\MSConfig\Startup Folder\
And then check each subfolder for the item you're looking for.
