XP Shutdown

Mornin' all,

Yesterday I did an upgrade install of XP on a Win98 machine. Now when you shutdown it will give you a message that it is "Now safe to shutdown the pc" like an old AT type pc instead of automatically turning off. I thought maybe it was a setting in Power Saving but nothing there helped.

Anyone know how to correct this without a re-install?

Thanks,

Gerry

Will do. It will be a few days before I can as I have already return it to the owner.
It shutdown properly with Win98. Is this a difference with XP? ACPI instead of APM?

Thanks Steve.

Finally got by to check on this. There is no ACPI setting in the bios. The first setting under power management is APM. This is a bit strange because in the motherboard manual the first setting is ACPI Aware Bios then APM. I thought maybe it needed a bios flash but I checked another pc with the same motherboard (Supermicro P6SBA) that has the latest bios but it is the same in the second pc.

I talked with the owner about it and he's cool with it so I guess I'll let it be. It just kind of annoys me because I know it shouldn't be like that.

Thanks again, Steve.
