need help with XP stop messages (blue screens)

ahh yes..the blue screens that we arent supposed to get with XP.....

here is the deal....just put a new drive in a ladies comp....she was getting stop messages and it would just reboot constantly as it hit the windows desktop.....it did seem to go into safe mode though....then I got it home and it quit doing that...

the drive tested bad according to seagates software...

    ghost wouldnt copy it...

so I put a new drive in and have sat here for several hours building it up....

    ----

It was going pretty good and then all of a sudden I noticed on a restart it clicked to a quick blue screen and rebooted....and I had to choose "start windows normally" etc.......

now it is doing that fairly regularly..but it will go into windows usually after 1 reboot....

    wtf???

how am I supposed to see what they stop message is when it just dissappears????

could it be her motherboard IDE controller going bad?

    any ideas??

    Thanks, JP

    really burning me up.....

is there a log of the stop message anywhere??

do I have to have "performance logs and alerts" on to see this file if it exists?

I installed roxio ez cd creator 5 off of the factory restore cd etc...then I got the update patch etc..so I dont think that is it....

if it were my computer..hehe..I might have showed it the dumpster....

seems it is EZ CD Creator 5 causing the issue...which I know is a well known thing but they had that patch to fix the xp problems...I had used to patch..but was still getting the blue screens....I restored back to b4 I installed EZCD and it seems ok so far....weird....

    luckily she doesnt burn cd's...

    Wink Can't see blue screen

Uh, when the computer reboots, press F8 to get to the Safe Mode option list and Hit Disable Automatic restart.... then let it do it again. It will show you the blue screen again until you turn it off.
