firefox vs slimbrowser
I've been away from the annoying IE for sometime. I like mozilla, or the lighter version Firefox with all the many plugins.
For the past year I've stuck with slimbrowser. It's a nice shell over IE that blocks all popups.
Lately on one of my desktops I've noticed a bug... When ever I click on specific links (Mainly mailto
It totally freezes up my system, opens constant blank IE windows and the only way out is to manually reboot. Any thoughts?
I love the concept in slimbrowser that it opens up new pages with a new tab each time, but I cannot seem to set up firefox the right way...any suggestions from anyone?
Thanks!!!!!

edit>preferences>navigator>tabbed browsing in mozilla. i middle click on a link for a tab. (my mousewheel is also my middle button.) with a two button mouse, at least under linux, you can click both buttons to simulate a middle button. don't know if it works under windows.

firefox vs. slimbrowser
I probably should have been more specific.
First, I'm aware that the mailto: link opens the outlook window...and yes it is properly configured. The problem is when I hit it, the computer flips out. I have the same settings and configurations on 3 computers and this is the only one causing me a problem. I've tried reinstalling, etc........ Maybe there is a software incompatability...I don't know. The only thing I have not tried is reinstalling outlook... (2003 version)
In regards to Firefox I know you have to hold the control button down to open a new tab. I was wondering if there is an auto setting or extention that will allow me to just type in the address and a new tab opens automatically such as slimbrowser.

Get Firefox, then head to the extensions page and search that page for Tabbed browser and you will find an extension that you can install and setup. You want to install the advanced preferences section. Then you can customize it to how you like, all of my bookmarks and external links on websites open up in new windows

Phenious,
Thanks for the suggestions.....the best part is it worked! I didn't know firefoxThe only thing I liked about slimbrowser was that feature and now I have the best of both worlds! As far as the mailto: freeze up with outlook 2003 I just did a complete reinstall so we'll see. I always assumed it was the browser...I don' t know why I wouldn't have thought it wouldn't have been MS. duh.... lol
Thanks again!

Can someone point me to exactly where to get this extension? I went to the Firefox page, then clicked Extensions, and then on the list at the left, I clicked Tabbed Browsing, and I get 7 extensions, none of which seem to do this. What is the exact name of this extension?
Thanks,
crow

It isn't an extension. It is built right into Firefox. There should be an selection in your Options menu to "enable tabbed browsing" you can also just hold Ctrl and click on a link to open up a new tab.

actually there is an extension to give it Opera like tabbed browsing (defaults to new tab instead of new window).
For firefox 0.9 go here. I use "Single Window 1.0." I use to use tabbrowser extensions as listed above, but when i installed 0.9 it wasn't very happy

Slimbrowser any day
I have been using Slimbrowser now for 2 years and have yet to find a browser that matches it. Firefox makes you look for add-ons but in Slimbrowser its all already there. Has built in translation including translating whole websites. Allows you to open new tabs automatically when typing in a new URL.
Has other multifunctions that have been operative for years before anyone else thought of them. Mouse button navigation, for example.
I now have Firefox as some software requires it but I only use it when I have no choice.
Slimbrowser wins by a knockout!Last edited by Eric The Red; August 17th, 2012 at 04:22 PM. Reason: print error
