Windows Install Help!
ok this might be long. here it goes.
so i just put together my new computer and i cant seem to get windows xp installed. i bought most of the parts from newegg and used some from my old computer. it is a 2600+ mobile with 9600pro. so i format the computer with the cd and it formats. when it is done, it restarts and then shows the windows logo picture. then when done, they have that blue screen telling you they are installing windows. but when i get to that screen, it freezes after a minute. i wait for an hour and nothing. still frozen. also, when i reboot. sometimes, it freezes at the windows screen(i dont know wat it is called but it has a black background.) so now, what i am thinking is take everything out and put the old parts back in, install windows on that, then take everything out, and i reinstall the new hardware so i would have windows on the hardrive. i really need help. this thing is pissing me off because living without a computer, SUCKS!
please tell me some suggestions, things i can do, and if my idea of getting windows will work. i know it might take time but hey, if i need to, ill do it!

nahhh, dont do all that.
could it possibly be overheating?
I would make sure the heatsink is on right etc....
then maybe use just one stick of ram.....
boot from the cd and just try the install over again....formatting again"Even a fool is thought to be wise if he is silent"

Can you detail what u did exactly a little more?
Im having a hard time telling where it actualy started crashing
So you put the windows CD in... it brought up the blue setup area... you formed a patition and formatted it... Then did you press enter to start installing the setup files (still in blue setup place), or didnt u get that far?
If that completed successfully it should have rebooted, ignore the "press any key to boot from cd' and it should get to a graphical setup screen and ask for your language, timezone, all that crap.

Definetely sounds like a hardware problem. Try with the memory first. Take out one stick, and try. If not, try with the other (if you have more than one) Also, check temperatures of your hardware, such as the processor. Do this in the BIOS. If it has an option to check temperatures that is. There you will see if its something related to overheating or if the temperatures are normal.

all i got was that far. but i never got to the timezone thing or language. it would just freeze when it get to the grahpical screen. on the left it would say installing windows. but it freezes. also, when i wait for an hour of that, i reboot the comp and when it would get to the black screen witht he windows professional part, it would freeze or never even get to the graphical screen because it freezes.
the cpu is on correctly. the temperature readings say 38c. the fan is working also. i have two sticks of ram. so i might try one.

whatever you do slow down and take your time. more mistakes are made when we get in a hurry and rush.

Did you try Dan's tip about the RAM?
Try booting with just one stick of ram, if that doesnt work, try using the other one.
You could also download and run "memtest86"
Its a program u put on a floppy that scans your RAM For errors.
Win XP is known to be a tad picky on RAM.
What brand is it, what speed, what size?
More details about your comp might also help
