win2003 server as domain server & workgroup server
Hi everyone
I have recently installed Windows 2003 Server Enterprise edition on a PC and I intend to use this computer as a domain controller sometime in the future for the purposes of complete experimentation. I will join my winXP pro computer to the domain.
However, I have another PC which is unable to connect to domains due to the fact that the machine is running WinXP home and I dont want to install winXP pro on it for a number of reasons.
My question is:
Can windows 2003 server act as a domain server (eg a domain controller) AND as a workgroup server/member at once? I want to be able to share an internet connection through the server (if necessary) as well as a printer and also i want the winXP home machine to be abel to access resources both on the server and on my winXP pro machine and also I want the winxp home machine to be able to print to the printer as well.
Sorry no machine can be part of a domain, and a workgroup at the same time
This would be a huge security risk if it was to be part of both, as the winxp home machine would not require any domain permissions to view resources on the XP box.
