| Windows XP w/SP2's Bootscreen?
I don't know if this has been mentioned before.
Or if anyone actually noticed this after upgrading to SP2.
The bootscreen has changed. At least for me.
And I am using the final released of SP2 for XP.
Why I mean with changed you might ask yourself.
Well, after the upgrade the bootscreen is not the same.
Now it doesn't say what version of XP you are using.
It also doesn't include that text in the lower-left of the screen.
"Microsoft Corporation, 1983-2001"
Something like that, anyways you get my point.
What I want to know is why this change? I don't get it.
Whats the problem of knowing what version of XP you are using.
Now people cant figure out if I am using XP Professional of Home.
I cant seem to find an answer that explains why this change.
I also fail to see the point of changing the boot screen of XP.
Anyone already noticed this?
Anyone knows something about this?

Dan, I've no idea why they did that. People CAN tell if they check System Properties.

I know that, but why not show it in the boot screen as previous?
I have no idea either why they actually did this, its a mystery for me.
Just noticed too. The "Microsoft Corporation" text is still there.
They took away the "1983-2001" text which used to be under the first mentioned.

I noticed it, didn't really care as to why tho. I kind of hoped it would have changed my windows xp MCE boot screen to say something like windows MCE 2004.
I dont know why they would do that, I suppose you could go about changing the boot screen if it bothers you.

It doesn't bother me. I am totally fine with it.
Just wanted to know why they did that.

I know they could have taken away the "1983-2001" text because its actually 2004 right now. Why I think they took away of showing the version of XP is because of the whole XP "reloaded" coming soon. I am not totally sure though, but it would make sense right?

XP reloaded is supposed to be nothing more than another MS kludge, similar to the Plus packs for windows or Microsoft Bob, for those of you that remember. It's Microsoft's way to try to "fight the future" since they don't have any other major OS releases on the near horizon (Longhorn isn't expected still for almost 2 years).
As for the copyright date change - having the copyright there was stupid and "un-artistic," I believe. I run Windows 2000 and it has always bothered me that the boot screen says "(C) 1999" - even though it is Windows **2000**. Perhaps Microsoft is trying to keep people from realizing just how old XP is so they don't start asking questions when the copyright date is 4, 5, or 6 years old - meaning that's how old the OS is. |

In talking with Bill Gates, he told me that they took off the Professional part so that those with the Home edition wouldn't feel inferior. Since there is nothing to differentiate the Home from Pro, there will have to be an upgrade to Longhorn for the status conscious.
