MS Office 2000 file open delay
On Win2K Pro - When I open a MS Office 2K SR-1 Word, Excel or PowerPoint file, Windows Installer reconfigures Office 2K every time unless the program is already open. I'm thought it had to do with installing Office2K when logged on as Administrator but using the programs as the username I need it to report for changes I make to documents in my workflow.
Does anyone know how to convince Office 2K I'm [username] for purposes of editing files even though I'm logged on under a different name?
Reason I think it's a user ID problem - in various tweak programs the three programs I use (Word, Excel, Ppt) are greyed out, looking not installed.
Any ideas?

Try re-installing Office under the username that you are having problems with and see if that helps. Best of luck

Thanks - I was afraid that would be the only good answer. Opens a different can of worms, since my user name needs to be different in the docs than in my machine sign-on. Guess I'll just put up with the delay.
Thanks for the help....

When you setup Office 2K/XP, make sure there are no "1's" in the setup. Either install or don't install the options and don't do a default install. I would say ALWAYS do "Custom" installs and see exactly what they're throwing on your machine.
(Back to the topic)...if you leave the setup at default and it leaves "1's", then it will try to reconfigure everytime you start with new user or something that you've never used before.

Open the program, go to the Tools menu and select Options, on either the User Information tab or the General tab or something there should be somwhere to fill in the username you want to be associated with docs created from then on.my user name needs to be different in the docs
Is that what you meant?

For Evil Rick -
That sounds exactly like what it's doing - "reinstalling" as it calls it. I never do leave a MS application at its default values, but clearly I missed something this time.Originally posted by EvilRick

So - how do I get rid of the "1's" - what exactly are they? (If you tell me they're eveything in the program that isn't a "0" I'm gonna feel pretty stupid.)
