| Best media player that doesn't enforce "digital rights"?
I'm setting up my 2nd pc with Win2k and was wondering what media player I should go with? I've had some problems recently with the Windows Media player refusing to play certain files due to "alledged" digital rights issues. I need something that will play common video and music files. Would Winamp be the one to use or something else? Thanks |

Does the core media player require registration or payment to work? I read the site and wasn't sure if they want a donation or require a payment. |

i like winamp myself. it plays most any kind of audio format, and you can get plugins for the ones it doesn't play out of the box, like flac and monkey's audio...
there is a pay version of winamp, but it doesn't come with any features i feel justify the price.
also, if you ripped some songs with windows media player into wma on another computer, it adds DRM to it automatically. it's an option you have to turn off. |

If you have the room i would grab Quiktime, win amp (like storm said) and Real, and let windows decide what will open it. (I got 120GB of HDD) so i have them all.

i use zoom player. It supports plugins, just like wmp. In fact a general rule of thumb for it is if it works in wmp, then it works in zoom player. VLC is also very good, but i'm not very fond of its ui. |
