Red face removing partitions from xp home

OK, pls bear with me...im a total novice.
    So heres the problem.
My girlfriend left her xp cd at home (we're now very far away from home) and i need to format. I accidently created 2 partitions, when trying to fix a windows problem, using a friends startup disk (unfortunately, it was an xp pro disk, so it partitioned it.)
Now, i went through the internal process of finding the windows startup program in i186, but i cant get rid of the partitions. ( I have fixed the windows problem)
    So, what are my options?
I dont have the original xp cd, i do however have the cd key, is there some way to format, remove the partitions, then reinstall windows, without the cd? Or jst some way of removing the partitions?

    All suggestions welcome.
    Steve

    p.s.

Can i just borrow an xp cd from a friend and use that to start up? or do i need the original.
What im worried about is losing drivers...ie, sound, video card drivers...
