I seem to have a problem installing windows XP on my PC.. I had windows 98 installed and working fine, and then now i formatted the disk and trying to install windows XP, but during "installing devices" suddenly a blue screen pops up :
"windows has detected an error and shut down to prevent damage.. ... Plug and Play has detected an error probably due to faulty drivers"
anybody know wat's going on ??
my specs:
- AMD Duron 1Ghz
- Gigabyte Mobo GA-7ZXE
- 6gb HDD
- GeForce2
- 192mb RAM (2 x 128 + 1 x 64)
- 300W generic PSU |

Is this while its still during setup in the setup blue area? Or is it in the GUI part after the install is completely done?
If its still in the blue initial setup screens you may need drivers for the IDE controller
If you have them on a floppy, you can press F6 to install them when it says do you want to install extra drivers.

hmm... it's after the 'blue' screens and goes into the XP installing screen...
I think it's the 4th step seen on the left hand side.. "Installing Devices" or sumthing like dat... |

Hey Silvest,
Disconnect all external devices .. anything other than keyboard, mouse, monitor
and if you have a sound card or modem or any expansion cards .. remove them from computer.. and then try installing XP.
I hope you have atleast 128MB Mem on your computer.

Are you using a full version of XP? Or an upgrade version of XP from 98? If an upgrade version, which version of 98 are you using?

It's okay now... first time i saw that screen, i wuz upgrading from 98SE to XP Pro.. then i did a clean format and tried installing XP only... still same screen..
For some reason, without the jumper in 'master', the HDD was detected as a slave... it installed fine after setting to be master.. not sure if it was coincidental :P |
