    Win200Pro boot up problem

    Hi

I've installed win2000pro on a new system, and retired the old computer.
    Now running a 3.0Ghz P4 on a Aopen mobo, and a 80GB Maxtor Hdisk.

Problems start after updating to SP4 and installing all the other bits of software, such as office, Norton Firewall and NAV.

Everytime I reboot the PC, or turn it on, it wants to run checkdisk. It finds no errors and continues. Why does it want to do this everytime??

I've managed to disable it at the moment as a temporary solution, but can't see whats going wrong to cause it to want to run in the first place.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

I should not do that as long as you shutdown correctally. Unless there is an error with the HD. Also it normally runs scandisk if you shutdown wrong not checkdisk. Did you update to SP4 before or after you installed the other programs??

Ran the updates to SP4 before installing any other software.

Its a brand new hard drive, I've ran the maxtor diag tools, and it shows up with no faults.

Just seems odd that it leaves a dirty bit behind everytime. Is there a way of diasabling fast shutdown like you used to be able to do in win98? wonder if that is the cause.

I have an earlier post similar to yours after installing more memory. Never did get an answer to the fast shutdown on 2k.

Thanks for all the help. Seems like the Cache delay fix has worked.

I'm glad you posted the outcome. That fix was supposed to be only for win9x/Me but the problem seemed to be the same so I figured it was worth a shot. Glad it's fixed.
