| NTLDR Missing on Formatted HD???
Hey everyone, I formatted my HD, and when I put it back in, and started it up to re-install Windows XP Home, it says Missing NTLDR, please push ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart. I can restart till I am blue in the face, and its not doing anything. I have been reading all over the internet, and this is the clocest I am comming to answers. Thank you to anyone that has some answers for me. I have tried to put in CD's and Floppy's, and it doesnt want to cooperate. So I am really at a loss here. Thanks for all the help again!! Angel |

I have only joined tonight and I am somewhat a beginner. However I went up on Yahoo and keyed in that NTLDR and here is a link: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/N/NTLDR.html
Here is an extract to begin with
"Often a user will see the message "NTLDR is Missing" after attempting to install Windows 2000 or Windows XP, or upgrade a Windows 95-based or Windows 98-based computer to Windows 2000 or Windows XP. The message appears after the first reboot. This occurs only if Windows 95 or 98 has been installed on a drive with the FAT32 file system."
Perhaps this will help a little. That's best I can do. You will need to read it all and hopefully go from there to solve your problem. Good luck.

ok, ive been all through these forums, on this missing NTLDR topic.. one thing i dont understand is... why does it happen.. im working on different systems, and when i take a main HDD that is formatted with XP, that I KNOW works on that particular system, and try to run it in another system, why does it get the msing ntldr message? placing it back in the original system, it boots fine. at my old school, we had systems that had removable HDD units, becuase you wouldnt neccessarily sit at the same system each day. we never had any problems, when booting at a different spot.. and all of the pcs in the classroom werent always the same motherboard system. of course, those were win98 formatted, at first, and then 2000 and XP were added, to multiboot..
so, why, when im working on different motherboard systems, when i take a XP only formatted hdd, and try to boot on any of them, other than the original, do i get the ntldr missing message? |

ntldr missing shows up when u try to swatch HDD is another protection from MS to prevent copying OS into hard drives.
Try reformat it again. Boot up in dos and /format c:
see if that helps |

haha, i just want to be able to take a hdd and boot in in a different system, like, say, i dont have a network connection at home, but im going somewhere that does. i would want to use my hdd to boot from, and operate on the net, instead of slaving to their master, and not being able to access my own programs or whatnot. what information is stored to a hdd that tells the os trying to load that it is installed to a different motherboard? |
