Service Pack II help

Hi,

I just recieved a new Hard Drive and installed windows xp pro on it. All was fine until i installed service pack II. After I installed it, I couldn't get on the internet. When i checked my IP address, it was fine and was able to release and renew fine. I also disabled the firewall settings that it automatically enables, but it still wouldn't work. The only way I got it working again was to uninstall sp II. I don't know what's wrong. On my old Hard Drive, I was able to install SP II just fine and it gave me no problems.

more information on the type of internet service you have and the setup

I am at Purdue right now, and I am using the dorm internet connection.

when you plug in the network cable

go to start, run, type cmd, then ipconfig /all

then type ipconfig /release

then ipconfig /renew

Thanks for your help, but i got it figured out. At first, I thought that there was something wrong with the driver, but it turns out that I had a virus. Apparently, the Purdue network is teaming with it and if your computer doesn't have the recent windows updates or antivirus, you're a sitting duck. I had to reformat and install spII behind my buddy's router which had a firewall in order to get my computer to work... Who would have known...
