Alright here's the story..... I had installed 2K and XP on my 40GB, partitioned 3 times - C D and E.... 2K is on C and XP is on D, and E is for program installs.... Now, I was at my friends house the other day and brought my Ti4600 video card just to try it out to see if it would work because I thought maybe my AGP slot was partially fried.
Sooo first, I tried the 4600 in my computer and it wasnt working. My friend luckily had a spare motherboard and cpu I could use to try out, mine's an AMD and his is an Intel. We switched out the hardware and tried it out. The computer had trouble booting into either system. I went ahead and just formatted my 2K install on C and reinstalled 2K. Well the video card didnt work so since drivers hadnt been installed I just threw my hardware back in, figuring it'll just start-up semi-normally considering it's just a fresh install for 2K, all I would have to do is do the normal setup.
Well after I did that I went ahead to start into XP. The option is there to start into but there's some odd error that has to do with Windows
2000. So I went back into 2000 WiTh the 2000 start-up option to check the boot.ini file... which appears like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
ehh well that's after i've done some minor editing, but anyways since XP is installed on D... it would be partition
2, wouldn't it?
In disk management, after I had first installed 2K, I formatted the rest of the hard drive into an Extended Partition... which appears like this:
I've also tried, in the 2000 and XP CD (startup) console, fixmbr and fixboot, which did.... probably nothing.
Sooo my question is what should be changed in the boot.ini for XP to start-up?
or am I missing something?
or is it just completely wrong altogether?
TIA,
EG
