HELP!! Symantec Norton 2005 Internet Security

I've installed it once on one of my desktops running Windows 2000. It kept getting little errors here and there saying to try and reinstall it. After uninstalling it all hell broke loose. When trying to reinstall erros galore come up about not being able to get some file, or files missing. It once f'd the network connection and wouldn't allow me to get online. Then that went away, but every time I try to install the program, it wants to run an uninstall that refuses to complete and brings up errors, this one being the most common.

Error 1316: A network error occured while attempting to read from the file: C:\WINNT\Installer/PCONTROL.MSI and it erros on other .MSI file types. Can anyone help?

Norton can be invasive, and hard to be rid of...
I would do the standard un-install, then run regscrubXP
then run a search for both "norton" and "Symantec" both in the registry and the regular hard drive "search" function, and remove all findings...
then reboot and try installing again.

okay, well now trying to reinstall and I keep getting a message saying, "The MSI must be launched through setup."

And also, "Setup was unable to remove previously installed version of this product."

So I have no clue what the hell is going on.

Well that's what's pissing me off. I HAVE REMOVED everybit of them I can find as well as run numerous cleanup programs and registry cleanups. Just nothing is working. I would reformat but I don't have the disc for Windows 2000 which im running that particular machine.

Okay, after running another cleanup from Symantc I got the damned thing installed, only once again the net connection went to hell and I can't connect to run live update to protect my computer. Why would it knock out the net? Maybe a restart will liven things up? If all else fails reboot?

And yes, Norton is blwocking my net connection somehow. I have it on allow traffic but there must be some other setting keeping my connection from getting through.
