I know this has been asked before, but I couldn't seem to find the thread.
I just converted from opera to firefox, at least for the time being. How do you get firefox to open all links in a new tab instead of a whole new window? The only option I found in the preferences was to "open all links from other applications in a new tab". That doesn't apply to links in firefox.

cntrl+click on hyperlink is your friend!
I believe on the tools --- options and advanced there is an option to open new windows as tabs.. or something like that. |

Also you can click your third mouse button ( the wheel ) and that will bring the link up in a tab. |

in the address bar type about:config
do a filter for 'tab' and there are several options there. most notably showsinglewindowmodeprefs will put more tab stuff in the options menu. It is possible to almost completely mimik opera (that's how i have it setup). There used to be an extension called singlewindow or something to that effect that also did this...however i haven't seen it for v1.0 yet. |

Mozilla offered an extention for that exact purpose on pre-1.0 releases. Now I miss the fact they haven't come out for the PR. |

hey trb, you can still do it manually. Most of the extensions out there, including the single window one, just modify values in about:config. |

Am I supposed to make it?

i'm not sure in mozilla...i haven't used it in a long time. I've never tried making a value, but i doubt it would work since showsingle... was recently added in firefox itself. Check the other tab values though because i'm sure you can do it manually. Specifically look for:
browser.tabs.opentabfor.windowopen
guess what it does? |

Yeah i found the middle click thing, but thats kinda annoying because my scroll wheel is very sensitive and i end up scrolling a little when i try to click it and i miss clicking the link. I want it so that just a single normal left click on any link will open it in a new tab, not a new window. Thats how I had it set up in opera.
Thanks originel, I had tinkered in the about:config thing in the past but forgot about it. |
