    installing win98se creating a new boot disk

     
    my friend bought a cheap computer from a garage sale. After 2 weeks his so called son broke his reboot bisk but the hard drive crashed so i have the win98 cd but dont know how to install the cd keeps saying that there is a version of windows on the computer and then stops

    And how would i create a new boot disk for him

    just need a guide on how to do it so please point me in the right direction

    You can get boot disks from www.bootdisks.com or you can make one from a running win98se machine but I cant quite remember how that works. You can use a boot disk to boot to a command prompt and type fdisk and erase the hard drive so that when installing windows it doesnt see an operating system and should install after that.

    To make a boot disk in win98 go to control panel / add remove / startup disk tab.
    You can't get there from here

    A startup disk made from another W98se machine might be specific for that system's hardware, and may not contain all the drivers you might need for an optical drive (CD-ROM) for example. You will be much better off going to www.bootdisk.com as suggested by fourthbean. Get the W98se boot file. It will create the exact same boot floppy that an OEM or Retail full version of W98se would have packaged with it.
