Question
Dual Boot Setup - Xp Pro/win 2k Pro

Hello, I hope I can get some insight here...

I just finished copying XP and all progs from one smaller drive to a newer bigger 80 GB drive.
The drive has only 1 partition. Works perfect.

So, I have a computer with XP PRO installed.
I want to have a DUAL BOOT setup on this computer with XP PRO and WIN2K Pro as choices during start up.

When I insert the WIN2K Pro Disc I get :

"THIS CD ROM IS FROM AN OLDER VERSION OF WINDOWS THAN THE ONE YOU ARE PRESENTLY USING.
SETUP FUNCTIONALITY FROM THIS DISK WILL BE DISABLED"

Can you explain what this means? I am assuming its referring to XP vs Win2K.

I was hoping that insertig the disk it would ask if I wanted a Dual Boot setup....

I have in my possesion the WIN2K PRO CD. I dont have the XP PRO CD yet(Its on the way to me).

Can someone tell me if its possible to do a Dual Boot setup with what I have now?

Does WIN 2K Pro need to be installed first?
What else do I need to do to make this work?

Thanks in Advance

You have to install W2k first, then XP.

You don't have to but it might be more organized.

That's always a good idea... keeps things cleaner. No chance of messing things up when running updates and patches, or installing programs that want to install their own DLLs.

Thinking through it all and how windows OS's function....
This makes sense.
What I DONT want are setup and system files getting overwritten with major problems 'later'....

So how big should these 2 SYSTEM partions be? The old partition on the old drive was 4 GB. With XP and XP Office and a few more, the free space dwindled quickly to 500+/- MB.

Installation requirments for Visual Studio.Net is 900MB on system drive!
(All together with MSDN and all the tools is over 4 GB for everything)

Next, can I use an Upgrade Version of XP for the second OS installation?

Thanks again!
