| Excel help!! I fight Excel & Excel wins!!!!!!!!!
I know I should just go buy the friggin' Excel for dummies book, but then I'd have to admit I suck at Excel &............well........I can't do that.....(in Bizzarro voice)....har har...
Need to do 2 things........
#1.) Multiply 2 columns row by row.
(i.e. C5*E5, C6*E6, C7*E7 etc. etc.) (Or I should say that I want F5 to equal C5*E5, etc. etc.)
Obviously, I can do sum/mult formulas for each row on those 2 columns but I've got to go to C26 & E26 & would reeeeally rather not. I know this is probably simple but my brain ain't workin' right now.
#2.) Wrap text at the page mark, not the cell. I can either extend text forever or hit "enter" every so often & do it like that to make it onto one page. I know this is simple & I thought I did it before but can't remember.
Had a reeeeeally looooong day so I'll ask to keep flames to a minimum?? LOL!!! |

Type the formula into F5 (C5*E5), then just copy and paste it into the remaining rows.
Yes, the dummies book couldn't hurt, but we're here for you. |

For #1, you just type in the formula in the first cell, you notice a box appears around the cells that you are working with. Drag this box to the end of the list and the operation will extend along the list.

Just to add to cryptoguy's comment, want you want to do is click on the little square/dot in the lower-right corner of the cell and drag. This copies the formulas over/up/down whatever for you. Excel being as cool as it is, automatically changes the formulas
Thus if you have
A1*B1
and you drag it down
you'll get
A2*B2....A3*B3, and etc.
If you want to want a cell to stay the same when you translate/copy formulas, press F4 with the cursor inside/next to the Cell name, or by highlighting it, and it will become an anchor. you'll know it worked correctly if you get dollar signs
I.e.
C4 becomes $C$4
That way if you want to multiply a bunch of stuff all by the same cell, you can do the formula dragging thing and it'll work as intended....
For 2)... you can see the dotted lines that mark the edge of the page, just adjust your cell width so it lines up with the page border on the right. Now right click on that column of cells and goto format --> alignments --> place a check next to "wrap text". Make sure its a full check, not a square block. Square block means that some of them have this formatting but not all, so you'll have to click it 1 or 2 times to get to be a check.
Anyways, I'm done rambling now, if you have any more questions just ask. |

Thanks gang!! Got it workin!! (With your help!)
My first mistake was not draggin' the little DOT!!! Grrrr!!! I had tried draggin' the box & forgot about the dot. Oh well. I'll forget it again next week!! LOL!!!
Text thing makes sense now. I think I did that before too & didn't do it tonight 'cuz I was thinkin' I'd stretch the whole column to the dotted line instead of just the cell. (Wasn't thinkin' right).
I just did it the ghetto way & dropped to the adjacent column below to finish text. I was able to fax it still tonight b4 I left work. (Leavin' now). It's worth a few bucks so better I got it done tonite then wait 'til the morning. Sleep easier..........or somethin' like that!!
Thanks again!!.... |
