XP not booting up...help!

my boyfriend's Dell PC is acting up and he's not sure what's going on.

His PC was on and then it suddenly restarted, but it won't actually restart. The recovery screen comes up, asking if he wants to start in safe mode, last previous good config, etc. But, no matter what he chooses, XP won't start. It gets as far as the XP loading screen, but then goes back to the boot up screen and into the recovery again. It'll cycle through like this as many times as it can unless you unplug it.

Any ideas wtf is going on??

Try re-installing Windows XP.

Yeah, re-installing is definitely what I'd recommend. I've had some weird problems with a Dell Dimension 2400, where it would show a BSOD 2-3 times on boot-up, and then fix itself for some reason. In your case though, re-installing is the only thing I can think of, although perhaps someone else will have a better idea.

Wow, why is it that the first thing that is mentioned is to reload Windows? Yea maybe that will be the ultimate answer but there are things that can be tried first. Try this first, it may allow you to get into Windows http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q305595 then try to do a system restore to a previous day.
