XP- missing-- \windows\system32\config\system

Need help,

I have a laptop that crached last week and I cannot get windows to open and i get the message above. I know all I need to do (or have been told) is use the Windows Cd and use the repair option. My issue is I lost or cannot find the CD. I have a backup copy that is a IMG file- but I do not know how to get it to boot up my laptop. I downloaded WinIso but I really don't know what to do--

any help would be appreciated.

thanks!

Just burn the ISO then use it as a recovery cd.

Did you burn the image or did you just drag the .iso file to the cd and burn it?

I think you have to do something more like "burn cd from iso image"..in other words you cant just copy the iso to another cd...it would still be an iso

------

if you do get it burned you can copy my instructions from this thread http://www.techimo.com/forum/t138641.html where I explain how to do a "repair install"

also...have you tried to boot into safe mode? try pressing f8 as you boot and see if you can boot into safe mode.....if you can just do a "system restore" back to an earlier date

start/all programs/accesories/system tools/system restore

My tech skills suffer,

thanks for the help.

well what program do you have??

generally it would be either roxio EZ CD creator or NEro

or whatever CD burning software you have

just go there and look for "burn from iso" or just look in the help file for "iso"
