Recover from Failed Repair

I attempted the repair (reinstall over existing OS) option on Win 2000 and the repair fails at the point "Registering Components" It will hang there and if i wait it out then crashes completely. If I try and reboot, it starts again with the message " Restarting Repair" it runs all the way thru and fails again at the same point.
How can I recover back to where I wa before trying the repair. i previously had video issues and was getting changed file messages at every reboot but at least was booting to the OS.

Try setting your bios to "fail safe" or something less than "optimal" that may help.

If that dosen't work, try pulling everything out except one stick of ram, and the HDD and video card. Just bare bones.

Then in Bios again, set the video to pci rather than agp, (or disable agp if you can) if you think it's video related.

Also, try booting from the CD and do a repair there.
