Thanks doddsy, I think I might give this a go. I can use windows x64 for 6 months but I'll probably switch back to regular windows cuz I bet it's going to be expensive to purchase. Has driver support gotten alot better of late? I'd hate to reformat only to discover that a key component does not have x64 driver support, such as my cable modem or whatnot. Oh, and what about software? Will Office XP work on it? Games? etc... Does anyone know about that?

you should be able to get drivers....just check mobo drivers and video card drivers...other than that, don't worry about it. (oh yea..and network drivers too). Also, anything that's not core software (like firewall, anti-virus, or cd burning program) that is 32 bit should work fine...as for the lower level programs, then you will need special 64 bit ones!

So a complete format would be necessary to install this OS for just 6 months? Then what?

if you've not tried this os before.......install it on a seperate partition.............there are lots of game issues with xp 645 and still very few usb peripheral device drivers........very few true 64 bit apps and very few av and firewall apps that work with xp 64........64 bit IE doesn't work properly cos its lookin for 64 bit flash etc..but 32 bit IE comes installed too...... firefox etc work fine.........
don't forget: drivers with decorated infs.

downloading it now. Probably will not ever use it. I have to much on here that probably isn't compatible with XP 64. I'll wait and see who else installs it and how it works.
