Access Denied to "My Documents" after reinstalling the OS (XP)
I have landed myself into another pit.
I was running XP and had three different user accounts on it. I made "My Documents" private so that no one else using the computer can access my stuff. My documents folder target was on a different physical hard drive (D) to the one that ran OS (C).
I had to format and reinstall the OS (XP) and all is ok everyone can access their old documents however I can not!!!!!
It displays the following
Access denied to D:\My Documents
Can Not Access the folder.
I tried to change settings by going into sharing etc but no luck. I can access everyone else's folder on my computer exept my own. (Maybe i should have not made it private or at least taken it off before formating)
Just wanted to say you are a life saver!!! Thank you for this.I found the tread whilst searching google. I'd suffered a system crash and was locked out of all my personal files after reinstalling xp. After days of trawling the net to find help every other site seemed to say once xp had been reinstalled all files where lost for good.
Thankfully I came accross this before I gave up and now I have all my files back and have backed them up this time ! lol. Thanks again.
